ER Editor: The interesting 40 minute video linked to below, from Vesti, illustrates the way Washington’s neocons call the shots on the EU, which in turn decides the fate of Russian gas pipeline projects coming into the EU, such as the original South Stream project. Still in the construction phase, South Stream was due to enter Europe via Bulgaria until it got suddenly cancelled with neocon/European Commission interference. Irrespective of the economics involved, especially as some poor southern European countries need affordable gas, the EU kowtows to Washington, which can only offer much more expensive energy alternatives.
Russia responded surprisingly and creatively in the case of the South Steam cancellation by launching the Turkstream pipeline project in collaboration with Erdogan. Washington has the gall to accuse Russia of playing pipeline politics, but it is clearly a case of pot calling kettle black. Jim Jatras features in the documentary.
