Why Has Viktor Orban Declared a State of Emergency? [VIDEO]

ER Editor: We’re doing a twofer: an article (far below) by the Hungarian government outlet, Hungary Today. But first, some commentary on this by Alex Christoforou of The Duran, who like us wonders what’s really going on (video starts at 1:53 minutes). Christoforou hypothesizes that, behind the rhetoric, Orban is really anticipating some heavy-duty attacks against his government by the EU and is invoking emergency powers to deal with them.

Orban is one of the EU’s longest-serving leaders and was recently re-elected for a 4th consecutive term despite a heavy propaganda campaign by the usual suspects, such as Soros-sponsored minions, to have him fail. See the following:

NOTES

  • Orban has enacted emergency powers, which is not the first time. These were granted several years ago to deal with heavy immigration, and more recently over Covid. Yes, it could be troubling to have emergency powers granted to a govt, which permits rule by decree without going through parliament. But this is not unusual. The last time, the Orban govt acted responsibly. Ostensibly, it is to deal with the war in a neighbouring country, i.e. Ukraine. Poland (as well as Roumania) isn’t the only country with historical territorial claims on Ukraine.
  • The second stated reason is to deal with the massive influx of Ukrainian refugees into Hungary. One number given is around 800,000. He’s also enacting these emergency powers, Christoforou believes, to prevent the EU from attacking and dismantling his govt. The EU are very unhappy with Orban because Hungary has taken the lead on stopping the EU embargo on Russian energy. Hungary is landlocked and relies on pipeline oil from Russia, which is cheap and reliable. The EU has offered no real alternatives to this. The Hungarian foreign ministry has even called the EU out on this, calling them clueless. The EU has also withheld monies from Hungary from its lockdown slush fund during Covid, obtained from higher taxes from member states and money printing. Hungary never saw its share because Article 7  rule of law act is being cited against both Hungary and Poland. Hungary has forbidden the teaching of LGBT sexualised propaganda, similar to the law De Santis enacted in Florida. So the EU, including Mark Rutte, has really lashed out at Orban. Orban didn’t flinch so monies have been withheld. Now, after Orban going against the EU-wide oil embargo, von der Leyen and Borrell want Orban out and they’ll likely use any means possible. Orban has probably sensed this, which is probably one of the real reasons why he has done this, to prepare for major EU attacks.
  • This is hybrid war against Hungary, which the EU is going to escalate. (Then he goes on to discuss George Soros at close to 11 minutes …)

Government Declares State of Emergency Due to War

HUNGARY TODAY

The government is declaring a state of emergency in view of the armed conflict in a neighbouring country, starting from midnight on Tuesday, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said in a video posted on Facebook.

Speaking hours after parliament approved an amendment to the Fundamental Law determining armed conflict, war, or humanitarian disaster in a neighbouring country as causes of such a measure, Orbán said the war in Ukraine presented a constant danger to “Hungary, our physical safety, the energy supplies and financial safety of families and the economy.”

“The government sworn in today has started working immediately. In view of the war in a neighbouring country, we did not waste a single second. A war nobody can see the end of yet,” he said.

“We have seen that the war and sanctions from Brussels have brought about a great economic upheaval and drastic price rises. The world is on the brink of an economic crisis. Hungary has to stay out of this war and has to protect the financial security of families,” he said.

To do so, the government needs to be able to make decisions and act swiftly. The state of emergency, similarly to that introduced during the pandemic, will make it possible for the government to react quickly and to use “all methods at its disposal” to protect Hungary and Hungarians, he said.

“I’m going to brief you on our first decisions tomorrow,” Orbán said.

The Liberty Beacon Project is now expanding at a near exponential rate, and for this we are grateful and excited! But we must also be practical. For 7 years we have not asked for any donations, and have built this project with our own funds as we grew. We are now experiencing ever increasing growing pains due to the large number of websites and projects we represent. So we have just installed donation buttons on our websites and ask that you consider this when you visit them. Nothing is too small. We thank you for all your support and your considerations … (TLB)
