Launched: New UK campaign group – Labour Against Zionist Islamophobic Racism (LAZIR)

Pam Barker | Director of TLB Europe Reloaded Project

Pro-Palestinian activist Pete Gregson (pictured) recently formed the group LAZIR to eliminate Zionist influences within the British Labour Party, which has been beset by charges of anti-semitism for some time, charges which appear to have no real foundation. Not unless one adopts the IHRA definition of anti-semitism, in which case criticism of Israel’s treatment of the Palestinians becomes an anti-semitic act.  The Israel Lobby has been pushing the IHRA definition on different governments both nationally and at the state and local level for some time.

See Gregson’s piece on Medium from April 2019, titled Why 2,123 Labour members & I will tell the truth about Israel even if it means party expulsion, in which he attacks adoption of the IHRA definition.

We draw the reader’s attention to the Al Jazeera documentary, The Lobby – parts 1&2, parts 3&4 (as does Gregson below), for reasonable evidence that Israel is indeed trying to influence the workings of our democracies.

We recommend this Craig Murray piece we recently ran titled The Incredible Disappearance of the Israeli Embassy’s Shai Masot, a featured played in the Al Jazeera documentary. This piece links to the recent suspension of Labour member Peter Willsman from the Labour party for alleged anti-semitism.

We also recommend this site apropos of the issue Free Speech on Israel.

Two articles from Redress are republished below, both from this month.

New UK campaign group – Labour Against Zionist Islamophobic Racism (LAZIR) – launched

Labour Against Zionist Islamophobic Racism (LAZIR)Pete Gregson writes:

A new campaign group, Labour Against Zionist Islamophobic Racism (LAZIR), held its inaugural meeting on 1 June.

The group aims to kick Zionism out of the British Labour Party.

Making free speech on Israel possible again in the Labour Party will take more that just a petition. We need a campaigning group that stops the creeping Zionism that pollutes politics in the UK, most especially that is so corrosive in Labour. We need to build a network of activists across the UK, working in a concerted manner against the toxic Jewish Labour Movement, in a campaign to allow us to decry apartheid in Israel without being branded “anti-Semites”. So, I want to invite you to review the aims and policies of the body below, and sign up if you want to be a member.

Labour Against Zionist Islamophobic Racism (LAZIR) aims to build up a network of Labour activists in Constituency Labour Parties across the UK who will work to get Zionism out of the Labour Party, because Zionism is racism.

Policy 1: We are not anti-Jewish. We stand by the Merriam Webster definition of anti-Semitism, defined as “hostility toward or discrimination against Jews as a religious, ethnic or racial group”. We abhor this kind of racism as we do all racisms, including that against Arabs by Zionists and other racists. We focus on Zionist racism because other forms of racism are not generally acceptable in the Labour Party. Political Zionism currently is.

Policy 2: We note the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) definition declares that saying “Israel is a racist endeavour” is anti-Semitic, but we say it is the truth. And we know there will never be peace there until Palestinians are given equal rights to Jews and the full right to return is implemented (as the UN called for in Resolution 194). We see that the Jewish Labour Movement (JLM) is a Zionist body that supports Israel and rejects these aims. They must be disaffiliated from the Labour Party and replaced with Jewish Voice for Labour, whose anti-racist aims and values truly reflect Labour’s social justice philosophy. We will oppose Zionist political activities in the Labour Party, trade unions and civic bodies. We say that membership of the JLM and the Friends of Israel should be proscribed for Labour members, for these bodies promote racism against Palestinians and Arabs in Israel and in the occupied territories.

Policy 3: We oppose the IHRA definition of anti-Semitism as politicised and fraudulent, as do the Palestinian trade unions and civic groups, whom we are committed to supporting. We will campaign to get it confined to the dustbin of history, thereby freeing millions of UK citizens to criticise Israel as they see fit.

Policy 4: We believe in freedom of speech and will not bar anyone from joining this group. They must stand by the rules and satisfy these conditions:

  • That they are current or expelled members of the Labour Party or political levy payers/affiliated supporters in the trade unions
  • Campaign supporters should not accuse anyone of violating the IHRA definition or any putative definition of anti-Semitism other than the above dictionary definition. Indeed, we believe all those accused of an “anti-Semitism” that does not reflect the Merriam Webster definition deserve full solidarity and support. We challenge claims that their conduct brings the party (or union) into disrepute; we consider witch-hunts of such individuals to be far more corrosive, as it usually reflects institutional support for apartheid Israel.

Policy 5: We note AlJazeera TV’s “The Lobby” which shows how Israel funds the JLM and the FoI to take down UK politicians of whom it disapproves (even Tories – click here). We despair of the BBC and the Guardian and other press who support Zionism and undermine free speech on Israel. The IHRA says it is anti-Semitic to say that “Israel exaggerates the holocaust”.

While they may not exaggerate the numbers, we believe they exploit and weaponise it. Here we note the words of the Israeli former minister of education, Shulamit Aloni, who said in a US interview that the holocaust was a trick the Israelis used. The interviewer asked:

Often, when there is dissent expressed in the United States against policies of the Israeli government, people here are called anti-Semitic. What is your response to that as an Israeli Jew?

Aloni replied:

Well, it’s a trick, we always use it. When from Europe somebody is criticising Israel, then we bring up the holocaust…

We note that Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu now exploits the holocaust in the most outrageous fashion, with ridiculous claims that Hitler didn’t want to exterminate Jews at all, but had to because Amin al-Husseini told him he must!

Time and again the Zionists dredge up the horrors of the holocaust as a reason why they must make Arabs refugees, or at best second class citizens in their own country. They use it to justify sectarian, racist views. As Rabbi Aahron Cohen said when he gave this speech in 2006:

I must add that the use by the Zionists of the holocaust to further their aim of a sectarian state is the height of hypocrisy when one bears in mind that the Zionists turned each stage of Nazi oppression to their own advantage, to further the aim of forming a state…

So, we know, despite the IHRA fraud, we are not anti-Semitic when we say that Israel exploits and seeks to uniquely sacralise the Nazi holocaust for political ends. While observing how Britain did little to protect the Jews or help them escape persecution in World War II, we consider the Nazi holocaust was not a uniquely barbaric event: 10 million black Africans were massacred by the Belgian colonial regime in Congo at the turn of the 20th Century. Imperialist crimes everywhere (including those of the British in America, Africa, Asia, Australia, India and Ireland) are of the same cold-blooded order as the Nazi holocaust, which was a crime of imperialist capitalism, not a unique slaughter outside of history.

(ER: And what about the slaughter of many millions of white Russians post-1917 in Bolshevik Russia, considered to be a primarily jewish government?)

Policy 6. We favour a single-state solution, whereby all citizens are equal – Israelis and Palestinians – Jews, Muslims and Christians – and all have equal voting rights – and where UN Resolution 194 on the right to return is honoured. We recognise this may lead to an Arab prime minister, governing the land between the river and the sea! We believe that by so doing we can help secure lasting peace in the Middle East.

Policy 7: We support Jeremy Corbyn to be Labour’s next prime minister, fighting by all means, including sanctions, boycotts and military aid, to support the Palestinians and defeat Israel’s monstrous and tyrannical racism, which should go as did South African apartheid. We believe that we must rid Labour of the IHRA definition to allow this, for if Corbyn criticised Israel as fundamentally racist right now, he’d be expelled from his own party.

Organisation

We shall be led by a steering group, elected annually, including a chairperson, a vice-chair and a secretary, who will administer membership, resources, etc. The steering group will speak on behalf of the group, possibly through the chairperson, but before issuing any press statements, they will be circulated for approval to group members. Membership will be free, though donations to running costs will be solicited. Expulsions will only occur with the agreement of the majority of group members. We shall operate a website and Facebook page, with the membership list held securely. We shall administer resources such as campaign materials, model motions, regular updates to members, events, an annual general meeting, legal advice and support to those victimised through bogus anti-Semitism, etc.

Actions could include recommending slander lawyers, Information Commissioner Office coordination on Labour data breaches, local authority and police litigation, assisting with press complaints, local council petitions/twinning proposals, coordinating the lobbying of politicians, organising mass IHRA breaches, etc.

UK anti-racism group calls on Labour Party to respond to complains about data leaks to Zionist media

Press release by Labour Against Zionist Islamophobic Racism

Labour Against Zionist Islamophobic Racism (LAZIR) believe that Labour headquarters has been infiltrated by Zionists. Last Friday, 31 May, Pete Willsman of Labour’s National Executive Committee (NEC) was suspended after saying that Israeli agents were at work within the party. But LAZIR believes this would explain the leaks that have bedevilled Labour activists since the recent rash of suspensions began. The Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) has now stepped in, telling Labour to start responding to complaints.

The recent “bogus anti-Semitism” suspensions began on 27 February with Chris Williamson MP for comments suggesting Labour has been “too apologetic” over anti-Semitism; soon followed by the suspension of Asa Wistanley, journalist at the Electronic Intifada; Councillor Stuart Porthouse, former mayor of Sunderland, suspended for sharing an interview with George Galloway on Sky News; Sean McCallum, mayoral candidate in Mansfield, suspended on the basis of two tweets questioning the origins of a meme that Naz Shah MP had posted; Jo Bird, a Jewish councillor in the Wirral, suspended for telling jokes; LAZIR Chair Pete Gregson; and most recently NEC member Pete Willsman.

LAZIR notes that in most cases the Jewish press published details of the suspensions before the party members received any notice from Labour HQ.

The witch-hunt at Labour is in full flow, with all those Labour members campaigning for Palestine and against bogus anti-Semitism at risk. However, the fact that there is no real problem of anti-Semitism in the Labour Party is reflected in the data released by General-Secretary Jennie Formby which shows that only 0.08 per cent of party members had done anything meriting investigation over anti-Semitism. But one would hardly know this from recent media coverage. Many Constituency Labour Parties (CLPs) such as Sheffield Hallam, Camberwell and Peckham in south London have overwhelmingly passed resolutions claiming that Derby North MP Williamson has been a victim of false allegations of anti-Semitism.

LAZIR notes that in most cases the Jewish press published details of the suspensions before the party members received any notice from Labour HQ. At the time of Asa’s suspension, Labour Against the Witch-hunt expressed outrage that once again the compliance unit had leaked details of Labour’s disciplinary processes to the press.

At the same time, LAZIR chair Gregson lodged a complaint to the ICO over the leaking of his data to Jewish News, five days before he received the suspension letter. He also complained about the failure of Labour to respond to his Subject Access Request (SAR). Only a few days ago, the ICO finally responded, pointing out that Labour had a “number” of outstanding SAR requests that it had failed to respond to within the statutory one calendar month deadline. The ICO declared to Gregson that Labour has infringed the party data protection obligations. It also noted that Labour has not addressed Gregson’s concern that his personal information was disclosed to a third party.

The ICO has told Gregson that it is working with Labour to action the outstanding requests and will be monitoring their progress to ensure Labour improves its practises going forward. The ICO has relayed Gregson’s concerns back to Labour and called upon the party to reply to the complaint Gregson had lodged in mid-March. The ICO has reassured Gregson that once he gets a reply from Labour, if he is unhappy with it, the ICO will then be in a position to establish whether it thinks an infringement of Labour’s data protection practises has taken place.

LAZIR believes that Labour’s Governance and Legal Unit has been infiltrated by Zionists working on behalf of Israel. LAZIR will work to expose this and to call the NEC to act to root out the moles causing so much damage to the party’s reputation.

Gregson has written back to the ICO noting their SAR concerns but pointing out that the main reason he had written to the ICO in the first place was on account of the far more serious matter of his suspension having been leaked to Jewish News five days before he received the suspension letter. As far as he can tell, this is in clear violation of the General Data Protection Regulations and is illegal. Gregson is very surprised the ICO has simply asked the party to respond to his complaint, without any kind of timescale being specified. He notes the ICO asked Labour to write to him “as soon as possible” but has pointed out it is now June and the disclosure to the press took place three months previously. He has asked the ICO to indicate how long he must wait for a response.

Other activists who have been suspended have also complained to the ICO.

LAZIR believes that Labour’s Governance and Legal Unit has been infiltrated by Zionists working on behalf of Israel. LAZIR will work to expose this and to call the NEC to act to root out the moles causing so much damage to the party’s reputation. LAZIR point to “The Lobby” video, which can be viewed here, as evidence that Israel has long been undermining the UK’s political foundations.

The Liberty Beacon Project is now expanding at a near exponential rate, and for this we are grateful and excited! But we must also be practical. For 7 years we have not asked for any donations, and have built this project with our own funds as we grew. We are now experiencing ever increasing growing pains due to the large number of websites and projects we represent. So we have just installed donation buttons on our websites and ask that you consider this when you visit them. Nothing is too small. We thank you for all your support and your considerations … (TLB)
