“When kids start to rebel against this, you know you’ve won”—Child Protection Advocate ‘Billboard Chris’

He’s currently in Brussels with Lois McLatchie-Miller, international spokesperson of the global legal advocacy group ADF International, and we sat down with him to ask the man behind the billboards about his journey and how he sees the future of the transgender discourse.

Little did we know that just a few hours later, they would be arrested by the Brussels police for peacefully standing in a spot with his iconic sign that says “Children Cannot Consent to Puberty Blockers.”

How did you begin this ‘mission?’

I’m a dad, first and foremost. I have two girls, and gender ideology is a social contagion that is primarily affecting girls who have come to believe that they were born in the wrong body. And the answer from this false ideology is that they need to become lifelong medical patients with puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones, and surgeries. I’m not going to send my girls into a world that doesn’t know what a woman is, or a world that is trying to change the sex of children, and I felt like it was a calling for me to do something about it. So I did.

It began in 2020, when a woman had put up a sign at the Edinburgh train station that said “I love J.K. Rowling,” and the government-run railway authority took it down because someone on Twitter complained that it was “hate speech.” I thought this was absurd; not only are they harming all these kids—which is, in my opinion, the greatest child abuse scandal in modern medical history—but we’re not even allowed to talk about it. So I decided to do something about it.

I followed up on that sign that got taken down by putting up a billboard in Vancouver that said the same thing: “I love JK Rowling.” A 30-foot billboard on the side of the road, which lasted only one day as well. A Vancouver city councilor, Sarah Kirby-Yung, ordered the sign taken down, calling it hate speech. This of course caused a lot of outrage, but more importantly, it started a lot of conversations. That night, I started a little fundraising campaign, and the next week, I had the same billboard up in San Francisco, and then Los Angeles, Portland, all throughout Utah, Washington D.C., and then Times Square. But then I ran out of money, and no sign companies in Canada would work with me, so I did the only thing I could do: I became the billboard.

The whole goal of this campaign is to start conversations. Back then, nobody knew this was going on, or they didn’t believe it was as bad as it is. I felt it was important to have these conversations in the real world, so I had some signs made. Many consider me a protestor, but I’m not out there to protest. These signs are conversation starters; that’s their purpose.

How do those conversations usually go? The videos that go viral are usually those where you’re attacked, but I imagine you get a lot of support, too.

I get overwhelming support almost everywhere I go. The biggest exception to that is Brussels. We had a lot of opposition the other day, including from men, surprisingly. Everywhere I go, I hardly ever have any men object to this message, it’s mostly the young women who’ve been indoctrinated to believe that transgender care is loving and kind. This ideology weaponizes their empathy; they’ve been taught in universities that there is such a thing as trans children, and that if we don’t transition them, they’re going to kill themselves.

But that’s a lie, like so many others, such as when they say the effects of puberty blockers are reversible. They don’t believe this is sterilizing children, which it is. They don’t believe they’re doing surgeries on kids, but they are. And they are angry and try to stop me from having these conversations. But we should be able to talk about anything in the world, especially when children are being harmed.

You’ve had your fair share of run-ins with Antifa as well. Is facing violence a regular part of your activism?

It doesn’t happen every day, but I’ve been assaulted more than 40 times. Just two days ago, here in Brussels, some guy threw a glass bottle at us, and then others were telling me I need to leave because it’s not safe, because Antifa will come. But the more you tell me to leave, the longer I’m going to stay there. I’m not going to let violent people succeed in silencing us. On the other hand, the police are usually great. I’ve had the cops called on me some 300 times, and normally they’re on my side because they’re parents too. I have the support of more than 90% of the population, for sure.

It does seem like a top-down ideology with no real grassroots support.

Yes, an ideology that’s pushed by a tyranny of the minority, and we get activists elected into politics to push this. They use euphemisms for all of their terms. They call this “gender-affirming care,” which sounds nice to the average person who knows nothing about it. But it’s actually sex-denying harm, and the only thing it affirms is self-hatred. Leftists claim to be progressive, but they’re the exact opposite: they’re regressive and sexist. The [real] progressive message is that there’s no right or wrong way to be a girl or a boy, and they’re beautiful just as they are. Instead, the activists insist that these gurls are born in the wrong body, so we’d better block their puberty, give them testosterone, and cut off their breasts. This is not “care,” this is child abuse.

It usually begins when kids are 9-10 years old, at the onset of puberty. These are chemical castration drugs, the same exact drugs that are given to convicted pedophiles. These drugs have never been approved for this purpose, so they use them off-label. These kids are overwhelmingly on the autism spectrum. They are kids who’ve been sexually abused or have other psychological trauma. So we’re taking struggling children in our world and telling them they were born wrong and turning them into lifelong pharmaceutical patients.

How could something so horrible become mainstream in our society so quickly?

It’s a perfect storm, primarily coming from three directions. Number one: social media. This is a social contagion. Gender dysphoria used to affect boys, mostly, and it was maybe one out of 30,000. Now it’s mostly impacting girls, and you’ll get schools where 1 out of 30 identify as trans. I should add that I really don’t like that term ‘gender dysphoria’; these kids are just distressed. They’re growing up and puberty can be hard. We don’t need to pathologize it. The second layer is schools and so-called sexual education, which comes from the very top. We have the UN pushing its Comprehensive Sex Education (CSE), the same program in all countries across the world. And then NGOs are the last piece of this puzzle.

Because the goal of the Left is not to have a revolution. It’s to be in a perpetual state of revolution. It’s a slippery slope that started in the ‘60s and never stopped. They move from one thing to the next, and when gay rights were won all across the West in 2010-2015, the new objective for all of these NGOs became “trans rights.” Their strategy is to conflate trans rights with gay rights, pretending that “LGBTQIA+” is one big community, but it’s not.

There was a huge scandal a while back, when parents discovered what was happening, they had to close down Tavistock, the UK’s largest transgender clinic for kids.

That’s right. The UK is in a unique situation, as it has had whistleblowers longer than any other country. They’ve had a lot of people on the Left, such as feminist groups, speaking out against this. Of course, J.K. Rowling helps the cause because she has such an enormously powerful voice.

But they did a systematic review of all the scientific literature, all the peer-reviewed studies. This was done by a left-leaning pediatrician, Dr. Hillary Cass. She published a 388-page report, which found the quality of evidence to support transitioning children is extremely low, and of course, there are grave risks of harm.

It feels like you’d need giant infrastructure to make such an impact. Who’s pushing all this propaganda?

Oh, there are a lot of true believers, this is like a religion. I call it the Cult of Gender. But it doesn’t take a million people to cause all this harm. Johanna Olson-Kennedy, for example, is the doctor at the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles who single-handedly transitions thousands of kids. Lobotomies in the past were also done by just a few doctors, but they harmed about 100,000 people.

A lot of the doctors pushing this are trans-identified themselves, like the people who write the “Standards of Care” at the World Professional Association for Transgender Health. The president is a man named Marci Bowers, who says he’s a woman. He’s done 2,000 vaginoplasties, including on children, where they castrate a boy, slice open the penis and then invert it to form a neo-vagina. These are ghoulish, evil surgeries being perpetrated on children and very young, struggling adults. That’s not medicine, that’s ideology.

Why is there no global political pushback against this at every administrative level?

I think there is a global pushback, we just need a bit more time. Just three years ago, none of the Republicans wanted to talk about this in the U.S. And yet, now it was the number one issue affecting swing voters during the 2024 presidential election.

We have systematic reviews that have been done. First in Finland, then Sweden, the UK, and now the U.S.

There are many angles to attack this from, but none of that happens without the principal objective: raising awareness. That’s why we’re here this week to speak with politicians in the European Parliament, because a lot of people know this is wrong, but they don’t know the full extent of what’s happening. When you give them the words to speak about it with the positive message that our ‘children are beautiful just as they are, no drugs or scalpels needed’, it gives them confidence to talk about this.

It’s a bit more complicated in the EU. Just recently, the EU Court of Justice published a preliminary opinion in the Commission’s lawsuit against Hungary, saying that banning content that promotes gender transition from primary schools and prime time TV is against “EU values” and violates EU law. Even though the Hungarian law in question only affects children, not adults.

Well, just like any Marxist movement throughout history, they go for the kids. They know they’re the next generation of politicians and voters. And that’s what we’ve seen all across the West. Some of the Eastern European countries have so far been able to avoid this, but they need to start talking about it now, because once you lose the next election, the Left sneaks this into all of the educational institutions, and the next generation will become indoctrinated. (ER: From what we hear, this generation of young people already has become indoctrinated.)

In just a couple of generations, you can completely lose on this issue, but we are winning. People instinctively know this is wrong, and that boys are boys and girls are girls.

For that, we first need to be able to discuss it. The EU already has a sweeping censorship regime in place under the Digital Services Act (DSA). And it gets more robust every year, ready to remove anything under the pretext of fighting “hate speech.”

Let me give you an example of what the DSA will do. I’m involved in a legal dispute with the Australian government because last year, they ordered X to take down one of my posts. I reposted a Daily Mail article about a woman named Teddy Cook. A woman who says she’s a man. She posts a lot of inappropriate content, such as nudity, bondage, and even bestiality. She’s not a doctor, she’s an activist. But naturally, she was appointed to the World Health Organization to help draft health care policy on this issue for kids and adults.

I criticized her, and I called her a woman because she is. The Australian Government deemed that to be “cyber abuse,” and they ordered X to take down my post. X refused, but they geo-blocked it in Australia. Both Elon Musk and I filed an appeal. So we just had five days of hearings to support my right as a Canadian from the other side of the world to criticize a woman in Australia. But because they have the Online Safety Act, they were able to get it geo-blocked. And the DSA is the exact same thing. If I criticize or ‘misgender’ someone in Germany from my home in Vancouver, they could order the post taken down across all of Europe, and now 500 million people can’t get the truth.

And there’s more. Because the EU is such a massive market, there’s a risk that social media companies will not bother creating separate moderation regimes, and rather self-censor globally than risk running into problems with Brussels.

If we didn’t have Elon Musk, imagine the trouble we’d be in. Everyone else would have just folded to all of this pressure. The DSA threatens 6% of their annual global revenue for just one slip-up in the EU. For an average company, that’s almost your entire profit margin. It’s an Orwellian, evil attempt to silence discussion by people who think they get to determine what others can speak about. We cannot allow these laws to stand.

Thankfully, the Trump administration has been tremendous in fighting for free speech in Europe and elsewhere. The State Department even put out a statement about my case in Australia.

When will you consider your mission fulfilled?

I’m confident that within ten years, we’ll put a stop to the medicalization of children. (ER: TEN years???)

When kids start to rebel against this, you know that you’ve won. I already see that happening; Gen Z and Gen Alpha are pushing back, and the boys especially are not having it. Europe is a bit behind in stopping the ideology, but we see a massive improvement in North America, and it’s going to happen here as well.
