The only 2 members of the UNSC who didn’t vote for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza as called for by UN, were US & UK. The same 2 which have been loudest in their denunciation of Russia in Ukraine. Double standards? The rest of the world will come to that conclusion.

BREAKING: Truly shameful scenes at UNSC where the US have just vetoed a permanent ceasefire in #Gaza and the UK abstained. Our political leaders are truly despicable and beyond redemption. We must replace these warmongering monsters.#FreePalestine

‘We do not support calls for an immediate ceasefire’: US at Security Council
Washington has again vetoed a UNSC resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip
THE CRADLE NEWSDESK
The US, on 8 December, used its veto power to turn down a UN Security Council (UNSC) resolution put forward by the UAE calling for an “immediate, humanitarian ceasefire” in Gaza.
“We do not support calls for an immediate ceasefire,” US Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN Robert A. Wood said before the vote. “This would only plant the seeds for the next war,” he alleged.
Riyad H. Mansour, Permanent Observer of the State of Palestine, gave his remarks before the vote, saying, “If you are against the destruction and displacement of the Palestinian people, you have to be in favor of an immediate ceasefire.”
“We have 2 million hostages in the Gaza Strip; our civilians have been attacked repeatedly,” Mansour continued.
The US resolution veto came a few days after UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres invoked Article 99, “the most powerful tool that [the Secretary-General] has,” according to UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric.
“I am writing under Article 99. To bring to the attention of the Security Council a matter which, in my opinion, may aggravate existing threats to the maintenance of international peace and security,” Guterres’ letter read.
He reiterated his worries prior to the resolution vote on Friday, saying, “I urge the Council to spare no effort to push for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire, for the protection of civilians, and for the urgent delivery of lifesaving aid.”
Dmitriy Polyanskiy, Russia’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN, said US diplomacy was “leaving scorched earth in its wake,” adding that if the US again vetoes a Gaza ceasefire resolution, “How could the country look its partners in the eye?”
The UAE urged the UNSC, following Guterres’ letter, to hold an emergency meeting on Friday to go over their forwarded draft resolution.
Wood justified revoking the immediate ceasefire resolution in Gaza by saying, “Unfortunately, nearly all of our recommendations were ignored,” speaking about the amendments made prior by the US, which included a condemnation of Hamas’ 7 October operation and the right for Israel to defend itself.
He continued by saying the resolution was “divorced from reality that would not move the needle forward on the ground in any concrete way. And so, we regretfully could not support it,” later adding that the draft was “a recipe for disaster for Israel, for Palestinians and for the entire region.”
After the veto, Nicolas de Riviere, France’s Permanent Representative, said: “Unfortunately, once again, this Council has failed. With a lack of unity and by refusing to genuinely commit to negotiations in doing this, the crisis in Gaza is getting worse, and it runs the risk of extending.”
The US vetoed previous resolutions set by Brazil and Russia within the first month of the war.

The Liberty Beacon Project is now expanding at a near exponential rate, and for this we are grateful and excited! But we must also be practical. For 7 years we have not asked for any donations, and have built this project with our own funds as we grew. We are now experiencing ever increasing growing pains due to the large number of websites and projects we represent. So we have just installed donation buttons on our websites and ask that you consider this when you visit them. Nothing is too small. We thank you for all your support and your considerations … (TLB)
