FULL TEXT

Interesting development in Germany: Friedrich Merz went flat on his face in the Bundestag today as he became the first candidate in German history to not get enough votes in the first round of voting to be elected Chancellor. His coalition is supposed to have an absolute majority (50% + 1) in Parliament but the German constitution requires that the parliament votes anonymously to appoint the Chancellor and officially form the government. Merz didn’t get enough votes, showing some members of his own coalition turned on him. They’re voting again in 14 days and if he still doesn’t obtain an absolute majority by then, new elections will most likely be held. I’m assuming they won’t let that happen though, and they’ll do everything to have everyone on board to avoid AfD from getting another shot at becoming the largest party; But hey, a girl can dream. Fingers crossed.

Merz Unexpectedly Fails To Secure Chancellorship in First Bundestag Vote

In what is seen as unprecedented in post-war German history, Merz failed to secure the majority needed to form a government in the first vote in the German federal parliament.

TEC NEWS

CDU president Friedrich Merz was not elected chancellor today, contrary to expectations, as he fell short of the votes he would have needed to form a majority in parliament.

Merz needed 316 votes in the 630-seat Bundestag but only received 310, which is a significant loss of face for the Christian Democrat leader, as 18 MPs who had been expected to back him dissented.

Reports highlight that such a failure in the first vote is unprecedented in modern German history.

The Bundestag will now have another 14 days to choose either Merz or another candidate as chancellor.

The Liberty Beacon Project is now expanding at a near exponential rate, and for this we are grateful and excited! But we must also be practical. For 7 years we have not asked for any donations, and have built this project with our own funds as we grew. We are now experiencing ever increasing growing pains due to the large number of websites and projects we represent. So we have just installed donation buttons on our websites and ask that you consider this when you visit them. Nothing is too small. We thank you for all your support and your considerations … (TLB)
