Epsom Protesters Demand Descriptions of Gang-Rape Suspects

.

ER Editor: A  20-something woman was gang-raped in the wee hours of Saturday morning in Epsom, a town 15 miles south of London proper, within the London connurbation. The local public are thoroughly angry by the lack of communication from the police, including not revealing the identities of the perpetrators, nor any CCTV footage of which there should be plenty. Locals took to the streets in outrage; by Wednesday evening, riot police were pushing them back, only to exacerbate the problem.

Police issue disorder warning after rape protest

For more than two decades, the UK has been known as Fortress Britain for the degee to which surveillance cameras are everywhere in towns and cities. This person is right to point out the likelihood of there being CCTV footage available —

In fact —

From Brendan O’Neill of The Spectator

Explain this to me. Why is it that a gathering of mostly white working-class men protesting about a rape is met by a line of menacing riot cops, and yet a gathering of primarily non-white youths running riot on a high street is given the kid-glove treatment? Following the events in Epsom last night, this query should be on everyone’s lips.

The scenes in Epsom, Surrey were extraordinary. In response to reports of a rape, a large crowd gathered to express their fury. A local woman reported being stalked by several men after leaving a nightclub before being subjected to a sickening assault outside Epsom Methodist Church. Surrey Police say they do not have “sufficient information” to release a description of the suspects.

It was this that piqued the anger of locals….

Epsom Protesters Demand Descriptions of Gang-Rape Suspects

Protesters in Epsom have demanded police release descriptions and CCTV footage of the men suspected of gang raping a woman outside a church amid suspicions that the information is being withheld owing to the ethnicity of the suspects.

The Telegraph has more.

Police are investigating after several men attacked the woman in Epsom in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The woman, in her 20s, had been followed after leaving the town’s Labyrinth nightclub before the attack by a group of men.

On Wednesday night, dozens of protesters demanded that police release descriptions of the men and details of their ethnicities.

Surrey Police has said it is still working to identify the identities of those suspected of having carried out the attack. A spokesman said: “At this early stage, we do not have full descriptions of any potential suspects.

“We will release further details once we have them. The victim is being supported by a specialist sexual offences liaison officer, who is helping her through the process at her own pace.”

The attack is believed to have taken place outside Epsom Methodist Church, in Ashley Road, between 2am and 4am. The church is 100 yards from the nightclub. It is not yet clear how many men took part in the alleged rape.

Anyone who was in the area at the time and may have seen something suspicious is urged to contact the police.

The force is also asking for motorists who may have dashcam footage to get in touch with detectives.

Police with riot shields were seen forming a barrier across the centre of the high street in the commuter town and traffic was brought to a standstill.

Earth and plants from pots lining the road were thrown at police, as well as a cone and bottles.

A man referred to as Pete addressed the banks of officers with a microphone, saying: “We came here today to deliver a letter to the police. Unfortunately, we have not been able to do that, but they very kindly joined us. Let’s read that letter out to them.”

He said: “I am writing as a deeply concerned resident of Epsom to formally request clarity and assurance following reports of a serious and distressing incident that is said to have taken place locally.

“It has been widely discussed within the community that a 20 year-old woman was subjected to a prolonged and violent assault, reportedly occurring in a churchyard and occurring for a significant period of time.

“What is compounding this concern is the apparent lack of publicly available information regarding the incident. There has been no clear communication about whether suspects have been identified, apprehended or whether there is any longer a risk to the public.

“The absence of detail has led to widespread speculation, misinformation and growing unease within the community.

“As residents, we fully appreciate the need for discretion during active investigations. However, we believe it is essential that the public is provided with appropriate updates and reassurances, particularly when an incident of this severity has occurred. At present, many women and girls in Epsom feel uncertain about their safety.”

His letter was greeted with cheers by protesters, some of whom then approached the riot police for heated discussions.

Worth reading in full.

The assumption, of course, is that the suspects aren’t white, because if they were they would have told us.

The Liberty Beacon Project is now expanding at a near exponential rate, and for this we are grateful and excited! But we must also be practical. For 7 years we have not asked for any donations, and have built this project with our own funds as we grew. We are now experiencing ever increasing growing pains due to the large number of websites and projects we represent. So we have just installed donation buttons on our websites and ask that you consider this when you visit them. Nothing is too small. We thank you for all your support and your considerations … (TLB)
