Egyptian Journo Who Exposed Purchase of Luxury Villa by Zelensky’s Relative Reportedly Murdered

In August, an Egyptian journalist published an investigation exposing the purchase of an almost five-million-dollar villa by a relative of Ukraine’s President, Volodymyr Zelensky.

Journalist Mohammed Al-Alawi, who exposed the purchase of a luxury villa by a relative of the president of Ukraine was found dead in the Egyptian city of Hurghada, the media reported.

Preliminary investigations reportedly point to the involvement of a gang of Ukrainian nationals allegedly acting on behalf of the president’s office. Both the journalist’s family and the police claimed that Al-Alawi’s murder was premeditated.

Al-Alawi became famous for his exposé on the acquisition of a lavish home in the El Gouna resort in Egypt by Olga Kiyashko, the mother-in-law of Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky.

According to the Egyptian media, the journalist suffered a severe traumatic brain injury that caused a fatal cerebral hemorrhage. There were multiple abrasions, fractures, and bruises all over his body. A source within the Hurghada police department has reportedly confirmed that Al-Alawi was severely beaten by a group of assailants.

Furthermore, in an interview with Al-Alawi’s brother, Mohamed Fahti, he disclosed that his brother had been the target of several death threats following the publication of the investigation. He also voiced his worry for the safety of his family and said that authorities were looking into the possible involvement of several Ukrainian citizens in his brother’s murder.

A considerable number of experts and a substantial part of the public suspected that the purchase of the Egyptian villa was connected with corruption. They accused Zelensky of diverting cash, provided by the United States and European countries for Ukraine‘s defense in its armed confrontation with Russia, for personal gain.

It is known that physical violence is used against journalists and public figures who disagree with the Kiev regime. In particular, in August 2022, Russian journalist Daria Dugina was murdered and reporter Vladlen Tatarsky was bombed in April. In November, Russian correspondent Boris Maksudov was killed in the Zaporozhye Region. In December, Ilya Kiva, a Ukrainian opposition politician and public figure, was allegedly killed by Security Service of Ukraine, according to the Ukrainian media.
