The U.K. show trials begin

We are witnessing a large number of Soviet style show trials in the U.K. designed I suspect not only to discourage rioting (a valid objective) but much more worryingly to discourage Wrongthink.

The State is very keen to let you know that it can actually get its act together when it wants to and identify, charge and imprison what it deems to be wrongdoers in short order.  This is very selective justice given the State’s repeated refusal to do anything meaningful about mass illegal immigration and its failure to properly prosecute many serious crimes.

This situation has been well described as anarcho-tyranny, where the State both ignores crimes that it is not interested in and simultaneously takes a tyrannical approach towards its own citizens.

My guess is that this is the most violent assault on free speech in the U.K. by any government in recent history.

One high profile case is being pursued by Cheshire Constabulary against a “55 year old woman from near Chester”1.  Press reports indicate this individual is Bernie Spofforth2 and that the charges relate to her wholly inaccurate tweet describing the alleged Southport attacker as Ali-Al-Shakati and being on an MI6 list, being an asylum seeker and arriving on a boat last year (I covered this exact tweet in my last article).

I don’t want to get too far into the legal weeds of what the police are alleging, as ultimately the legal position is some text dreamt up by sleazy politicians to create ways in which to oppress citizens.  They have no moral authority to make such “laws” using the threadbare excuse of “keeping us safe”.  The worry now is that many branches of the state are operating in lockstep, including the police, civil service and judiciary.  Traditional checks and balances offered by different estates of the realm seem to barely exist.  This is probably due, in part, to the years of Leftist political indoctrination introduced by Blair and delivered by Common Purpose and other sinister “training providers”.  So no matter how unjust or illogical these charges are, there is every likelihood that a U.K. court would support the State’s position.

There are two parts to the charges, the first part coming under the Public Order Act s.19.  Under normal circumstances that would seem to be a hopeless charge given that misreporting cannot be construed as being “threatening, or abusive”.  Spofforth’s tweet was incorrect and was certainly stupid, but no threats were included other than a libel on the non-existent Mr. Ali-Al-Shakati.

The second part is the more sinister charge under the Online Safety Act, which was a stick that was created by the fake-Conservative government and introduced in March 2022 by the hopelessly dishonest Nadine Dorries.  Sandwiched in between some very sensible measures concerning actual online abuse lurks the devious section 179.  This creates an Orwellian crime of Wrongspeak whereby a sender posts a message which is knowingly false and the person intends “to cause non-trivial psychological or physical harm”.  This creates a wide open goal for any oppressive state to censor citizens. You could easily see a scenario where something is “false” because it contradicts the State’s current position on any give issue and nebulous psychological harm can be certified by a state-sponsored expert.

Naturally, “recognised news publishers” are exempt from this liability, so the State will be able to continue to lie on an industrial scale via a co-opted mass media without any repercussions.  Of course the real world damage that governments can cause by lying is on a colossal scale, including pointless wars and very significant vaccine harms from a product the State pronounced was “safe and effective”.  By comparison the damage that an individual can do by “misreporting” via social media posts is miniscule.  So make no mistake, this legislation is designed solely for the purposes of intimidating small time operations and individuals.

I want to address some of the “it’s all a pysop” comments I get.  Firstly, Bernie Spofforth’s personal history doesn’t particularly matter. For the record, I was one of the first (possibly only) people to identify the enormous volume of fake traffic amplifying her previous account and the account of James Melville (see video)3.  I also recognised that the accounts that generate huge volume by posting old Daily Mail articles create enormous “white noise” which drowns out actual content.  This, I believe, is a form of back-door censorship as none of the well researched material ever shows up in Twitter timelines, and this outcome is achieved without the problem of leaving a trail of e-mails specifying which accounts the State wants censored.  So I recognise there are some peculiarities around Spofforth’s account, but I don’t believe that speculating about the extent to which the charges against this individual are real or orchestrated only to be subsequently dropped is very worthwhile.

In many ways the actual outcome of these show trials doesn’t matter, as the objective is to shut down dissent and that will be achieved.  The process is the punishment.  Soon we will start to self-censor, adopt code words, move platforms or even talk in bathrooms with the taps running as was done in Soviet times.
