UK starts releasing thousands of prisoners early – media

.

ER Editor: The RT report below was released two days ago. We weren’t sure what to make of it and don’t know how it could be proved. So much right now in the news seems  fake. A reminder that the Southport stabbings on July 29th seemed to set off a sequence of events, involving social media posts as well as protests in many UK cities, leading to a spate of arrests and citizens being frogmarched through the legal system. With an overcrowded prison system, this means some are having to be released. So they would have us believe.

Of note:

The Justice Secretary has announced in the Commons that prisoners freed under the early release scheme could be housed in taxpayer-funded hotels, once space runs out in community accommodation.

Shabana Mahmood revealed that inmates who would be at risk of homelessness on release would be offered the temporary housing for 12 weeks.

Domestic abusers and sex offenders were among the 1,700 people freed by Labour’s early prisoner release scheme today, sparking fears of a ‘ticking time bomb’ before more crimes occur.

And Ms Mahmood told the Commons, amid anger from opposition MPs: ‘If an offender is at risk of homelessness upon release, they will be housed in community accommodation. …

And critics have taken to social media to express their fury at the scheme – as well as the hotel accommodation – with one writing: ‘What a day for our country today.

‘Pensioners have had their fuel allowance taken away from them… meanwhile, early release prisoners leave prison to a welcome party, popping the champagne corks, with some going into tax payer funded hotel rooms. What a country to live in!’

Another added: ‘Now the Secretary of State for Justice tells the House of Commons that some early release prisoners could be given hotel rooms at taxpayer’s expense. We are living beyond peak farce.’

Nobody governs this way, nobody.

The emergency measure is aimed at averting a “disaster” amid a jail overcrowding crisis, the justice secretary has said

RT

UK prisons have begun releasing offenders early as part of a government scheme to deal with jail overcrowding across the country, according to media reports. The plan will reportedly see 5,500 people let out early in September and October alone.

Over 1,700 criminals are set to be let out on Tuesday in England and Wales, where the prison population hit an all-time high of 88,521 last week.

The Mirror reported that inmates were spotted leaving HM Prison Brixton on Tuesday. It is expected that those serving short sentences including burglars and shoplifters will be among the early releases.

UK Justice Secretary Shabana Mahmood has said the measure is being implemented “to avert a disaster,” given that only around 1,000 jail places are left available. Mahmood pointed the finger at the previous government, saying its failure to deal with the capacity crisis has left prisons “on the point of collapse.”

The Labour Party took control of government after defeating the Conservatives by a landslide in the country’s July election. The Tories suffered their worst-ever election defeat, while Labour’s victory brought a new party to power for the first time in 14 years.

A previous scheme allowed prisoners to be freed up to 70 days early, but critics said the plan meant only a day’s notice would be given before an inmate was released.

Labour’s new scheme is expected to address that issue by giving probation services enough time to prepare for the release and monitoring of offenders.

The early release scheme will not apply to anyone convicted of violent offenses, sexual offenses, or terrorism-related offenses. Prisoners with sentences of four years or less may be released after serving 40% of the term.

HMP Chief Inspector of Prisons Charlie Taylor told Sky News that the plan is “risky” and could create “more mayhem in communities.”

Meanwhile, the chief inspector of probation, Martin Jones, told the BBC that it is a “certainty” that some of the released prisoners will reoffend.

The Telegraph reported last week that the British Ministry of Justice was also evaluating an option to send some of the country’s criminals to serve sentences in Estonian prisons. The Baltic state, which has a low crime rate, had announced last month it could rent out prison space and host criminals from other countries to generate revenue for the state budget. However, British officials have been concerned that the idea could turn out to be “very expensive,” the report said. (ER: Seriously?!)

The British prison population is projected to increase to between 94,600 and 114,800 by March 2028.

The Liberty Beacon Project is now expanding at a near exponential rate, and for this we are grateful and excited! But we must also be practical. For 7 years we have not asked for any donations, and have built this project with our own funds as we grew. We are now experiencing ever increasing growing pains due to the large number of websites and projects we represent. So we have just installed donation buttons on our websites and ask that you consider this when you visit them. Nothing is too small. We thank you for all your support and your considerations … (TLB)

  1. While pensioners and veterans starve in the street!
While pensioners freeze in their homes, the Death Cult criminal invaders are treated like royalty. A civil war and executions for all the anti British, Globalist leadership (and their enforcers) is required to reset this nations moral compass! It can’t come soon enough!
