U-turn after two years: Munich Security Conference abandons exclusion of AfD politicians
For two years, no AfD politicians were invited to the Munich Security Conference – a kind of firewall was built by the then conference leader Heusgen. But now comes the about-face: AfD politicians are invited again next year.
APOLLO NEWS
For two years, AfD politicians were excluded from the Munich Security Conference. The then-conference director Christoph Heusgen had built a kind of firewall on the party’s side on the part of the organizers – not even relevant party politicians were invited. But Heusgen resigned as head of the conference this year – the new leadership is letting the firewall to the party fall again. This is what the dpa is reporting.

The conference told the press agency that invitations had already been sent to politicians from all parties represented in the Bundestag before Christmas. The decision was made by the new conference director Wolfgang Ischinger, former ambassador to the USA, and the foundation board. The invitation process is not yet complete, as the conference emphasized.
In 2024 and 2025, however, AfD politicians were expressly not invited. Heusgen, who headed the conference from 2022 to 2025, justified this with the AfD’s lack of willingness to engage in dialogue – the AfD had boycotted a speech by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in the Bundestag by a majority.
However, this year’s conference made headlines around the world following US Vice President JD Vance’s speech accusing Europe of curtailing freedom of expression. He criticized the AfD’s exclusion from the event: “There is no room for fire walls.“ Instead of meeting with then-Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Vance met with co-AfD leader Alice Weidel.
The decision of the Munich Security Conference, which will take place next year between February 13 and 15, is a slap in the face, especially for the CSU regional group leader in the Bundestag, Alexander Hoffmann. Shortly before the decision was announced, he had spoken out in favor of excluding the AfD from the conference again next year – there would be a “security risk“.
The CSU politician added smugly regarding the Vance criticism: “I think that if you explain to the Americans what the background is and the Americans delve deeper into the AfD, then their side will also make it very understandable why the AfD cannot be there.“ (ER: As if.)

The Liberty Beacon Project is now expanding at a near exponential rate, and for this we are grateful and excited! But we must also be practical. For 7 years we have not asked for any donations, and have built this project with our own funds as we grew. We are now experiencing ever increasing growing pains due to the large number of websites and projects we represent. So we have just installed donation buttons on our websites and ask that you consider this when you visit them. Nothing is too small. We thank you for all your support and your considerations … (TLB)
