U.S. Votes Against U.N. Resolution Condemning Russia Over Ukraine War

ER Editor: So the US has officially repudiated UN criticism of Russia over the Ukraine war, voting against this UN Resolution backed by Europe. Historic. Here is Zerohedge on this —

Shock & Outrage Over ‘Shameful’ US Vote At The United Nations

There’s been ‘shock’ and disappointment among European as well as former US government officials at how the United Nations General Assembly vote went on Monday.

In something unprecedented while the Ukraine war has been on, now having reached the three-year mark, the United States voted alongside Russia to veto European attempts to strengthen language related to a resolution on the conflict’s anniversary.

In total 18 countries voted against the Ukrainian-drafted resolution at the UN General Assembly that condemned Moscow and called for a Russian withdrawal from Ukraine.

Russia & The US’ Diplomatic Choreography At The UN Shows Their Commitment To A “New Détente”

The “NewDétente”, which refers to the ongoing efforts between Russia and the US to enter into a rapprochement in the New Cold War similar in spirit to what they agreed to half a century ago during the Old Cold War, is no longer speculation after the US’ pivot towards Russia at the UN.

The US joined Russia in vetoing a resolution from the General Assembly that condemned Russia for its special operation, and then Russia sided with the US in supporting the latter’s more neutral one in the Security Council.

This diplomatic choreography was clearly coordinated between Putin and Trump to show the entire world that they’re committed to the “New Détente”. In parallel with what was unfolding on the world stage, each leader also spoke highly about the future of their economic ties, with Trump hyping everyone up to expect “major economic transactions” while Putin hinted at cooperation in the aluminum and rare earth industries. This followed their representatives discussing Arctic energy cooperation in Riyadh.

A reminder that CIC Trump, during his second ‘Biden’ term, never stopped talking to Putin.

U.S. Votes Against U.N. Resolution Condemning Russia Over Ukraine War

21st CENTURY WIRE

Washington’s 180 degree turn on its previous official UN position regarding the conflict in Ukraine marks a major break from its European allies. The tremors of this seismic shift has also rocked the Zelensky regime in Kiev.

With the Trump administration making concerted moves to repair America’s tattered relations with Moscow, Washington’s efforts to end the war, and NOT to condemn Russia, has put the rest of NATO on notice that Trump means business on Ukraine.

It’s now clear that support for Ukraine is rapidly diminishing, with the latest voting results should much lower votes in support of Ukraine – which had previously saw over 140 nations condemn Russia’s aggression.

This is a major paradigm shift…

Washington Post reports…

The United States voted with Russia, North Korea, Belarus and 14 other Moscow-friendly countries Monday on a resolution condemning Russian aggression in Ukraine and calling for its occupied territory to be returned that passed overwhelmingly in the U.N. General Assembly on Monday.

The U.S. delegation also abstained on its own separate resolution that called simply for a negotiated end to the war after European-sponsored amendments inserting new anti-Russian language also passed the 193-member body by a wide margin.

The votes were a clear sign of opposition by major U.S. allies as well as countries throughout the Global South who were prepared to buck heavy diplomatic pressure from the Trump administration to support President Donald Trump’s efforts to quickly end the war through direct negotiations with Moscow.

A State Department official, speaking on the condition of anonymity about the fast-moving diplomacy, said the United States would introduce its resolution at a meeting of the 15-member U.N. Security Council later Monday and would veto any amendments.

“While our partners at the Security Council and in the General Assembly would like to debate the entire situation now, we are much more focused on just getting the parties to the table so that whatever the next step is can be undertaken,” the official said

Richard Gowan, a U.N. expert at the International Crisis Group, said the divide between the United States and Europe marked “the biggest split among Western powers at the U.N. since the Iraq War — and probably even more fundamental.”
