Church of Notre-Dame-des-Sept-Allegresses destroyed by flames
A violent fire ravaged the church of Notre-Dame-des-Sept-Allegresses in Trois-Rivieres on Thursday afternoon. The wind and age of the structure dating from 1913-1914 would have accelerated the spread of flames. In a few minutes, the fire turned into a general flare-up.
It was around 2 o’clock that a passerby called the authorities because he’d noticed flames in the church located at the corner of the rue Saint-Francois Xavier and the boulevard du Saint-Maurice.
Finally, in front of the magnitude of the intervention, the fire safety management triggered a general alarm. Firefighters from four other municipalities, including Shawinigan and Becancour were called in as reinforcements.
At the height of the blaze, around 14:30, the flames and smoke were perceptible several kilometers around.
The place would be a total loss.
Large perimeter of security
About twenty police officers went on the spot, in particular to set up a security perimeter. Buildings and shops were evacuated.
Firefighters and police were still at work Thursday evening trying to extinguish the fire.

Authorities have evacuated several buildings nearby.

Church under construction
A construction site had been underway for a few weeks at Notre-Dame-des-Sept-Allegresses Church.
Recently, workers were working on the roof of the place of worship, which was to be converted into housing.
A church isn’t insurable, so it’s a loss! We have put a lot of work and energy for two years, to preserve and transform it….. That’s that.
Power failure
The fire resulted in an interruption of service at Hydro-Quebec.
Around 14:42 Thursday afternoon, 2343 customers were without power in the area.

The Liberty Beacon Project is now expanding at a near exponential rate, and for this we are grateful and excited! But we must also be practical. For 7 years we have not asked for any donations, and have built this project with our own funds as we grew. We are now experiencing ever increasing growing pains due to the large number of websites and projects we represent. So we have just installed donation buttons on our websites and ask that you consider this when you visit them. Nothing is too small. We thank you for all your support and your considerations … (TLB)
