ER Editor: Starmer having talks with Italy’s ‘far right’ Meloni is causing a meltdown on Twitter / X for various reasons – giving UK taxpayer money to Italy regarding immigration (a mere 4 million pounds), taking immigration advice from somebody so ‘extremist’, obtaining contracts with military defense contractors, etc.
Interestingly, the Daily Express story below focuses more on Italian businesses creating jobs in the UK, which surely must be needed, than it does on immigration, despite the title. We notice that a steel contract with Marcegaglia may provide Sheffield with more industry jobs. Remember the movie The Full Monty? It addressed, humourously, the deindustrialization of cities like Sheffield and the poverty that that policy move wrought. We know Thatcher was in bed with the Club of Rome, One-World globalists, shutting down industry and manufacturing where she could. Perhaps this aspect of Starmer’s visit is useful? Gasp. And maybe getting advice on how to deal with too many illegals is, too.
This Al Jazeera piece focuses squarely on the migration issue. See —
UK PM Starmer seeks immigration lessons from Italy’s Meloni
Of note:
Before the meeting on Monday, the United Kingdom’s premier said he wanted to “understand” the “dramatic reduction” in migrant arrival numbers in Italy. The visit with the far-right Italian leader has attracted criticism from members of Starmer’s left-leaning Labour Party.
Starmer also visited a national immigration coordination centre with Italy’s interior minister, Matteo Piantedosi.
Since Labour won elections in July, Starmer has promised to fight illegal immigration despite rejecting the previous Conservative government’s plan to fly asylum seekers to Rwanda.
…
Despite rejecting the Rwanda plan, Starmer has not ruled out arrangements that would see asylum claims processed offshore.
Italy reached an agreement with Albania in November to host two centres where people would be housed while their asylum claims are processed.
Those with rejected asylum claims would be sent back to their countries of origin whereas those with accepted applications will be granted entry into Italy.
Meloni’s government has also inked a deal with Tunisia, granting it aid in exchange for greater efforts to stop Italy-bound refugees who leave the North African country to cross the Mediterranean.
Rome has also renewed a deal with the internationally recognised Libyan government in Tripoli dating from 2017 under which it provides training and funding to the coastguard to stem departures of refugees and return to Libya those already at sea.
…
Since the start of the year, refugee arrivals to Italy by sea have dropped markedly, according to the Ministry of the Interior. From January 1 to September 13, 44,675 people arrived compared with 125,806 for the same period in 2023.

UK hands Italy £4m to tackle ‘root causes’ of illegal migration
Sir Keir Starmer has almost completed a whistle stop tour of Italy where he discussed Ukraine and migration with their Prime Minister.
STEPH SPYRO for DAILY EXPRESS
Sir Keir Starmer has handed Italians millions of pounds in a bid to clamp down on migrants arriving illegally into Europe.
The Prime Minister announced the UK will give £4million to the Rome Process, the Italian government’s project to tackle the root causes of irregular migration.

Sir Keir said: “I am in Italy with a clear message for one of our closest international friends and partners: Britain is a place to do business.
“It is only by resetting our relationships around the world that we can break down the barriers that have been holding the UK back for so long.
“It means we can attract investment such as the significant sum I’m announcing today, create jobs for hardworking British people and deliver on my ultimate mission for the UK – economic growth.”
The Prime Minister met with his Italian counterpart Georgia Meloni to discuss the issue, hours after eight migrants died while trying to cross the English Channel.
At a joint press conference with Ms Meloni, he confirmed £485 million of investment into UK defence, clean growth and innovation by two major Italian companies – Leonardo and Marcegaglia.
This followed a business roundtable with leading Italian bosses in Rome, who together support 17,500 jobs in every part of the UK.
Steel manufacturer Marcegaglia will invest £50 million in Sheffield to build a new clean steel electric arc furnace, creating 50 new jobs.
Leonardo, one of the world’s leading defence, aerospace and security companies, will invest £435 million in 2024, to be spent at their Yeovil site, and in technology development and research programmes across the UK. It operates 8 major sites in the UK, supporting 8,000 employees. (ER: As we recall, Leonardo satellites were used by the deep state to monitor if not interfere in the 2020 US elections.)

The Liberty Beacon Project is now expanding at a near exponential rate, and for this we are grateful and excited! But we must also be practical. For 7 years we have not asked for any donations, and have built this project with our own funds as we grew. We are now experiencing ever increasing growing pains due to the large number of websites and projects we represent. So we have just installed donation buttons on our websites and ask that you consider this when you visit them. Nothing is too small. We thank you for all your support and your considerations … (TLB)
