A violent weekend in France

.

ER Editor: Here are links to two dramatic episodes in France this weekend involving the politicized assault (Antifa-style) of a right-wing student, who has since died allegedly, and the attempted stabbing of a policeman in the middle of Paris by someone, curiously, who was already under police surveillance for prior terror-related offences in Belgium. He was fatally shot at the scene by police, who never manage to simply wound the assailant as they must be trained to do. This latter report contains the number 17, and other typical playbook elements. Call us conspiracy theorists but this all smells of timing.

RTL DOCUMENT – “A meticulously prepared ambush”: Quentin’s family asks that his death be qualified as “murder by an organized gang”, announces his lawyer

Quentin, affiliated with the Némésis identity collective, was present on Friday February 13 to ensure the safety of activists protesting against a conference by LFI (ER: extreme left) MEP Rima Hassan at Sciences Po (ER: a prestigious university program) Lyon. An altercation then broke out with anti-fascist activists, during which the 23-year-old young man had been seriously injured. First taken to hospital in a “desperate state”, he succumbed to his injuries on Saturday.

The leader of the right-wing Nemesis identity collective, Alice Cordier, was the one who escorted Tommy Robinson around Paris for a few hours this past week. See —

The attack took place near the Institute of Political Studies in Lyon, where a demonstration was held in connection with an event attended by Rima Hassan, a La France Insoumise (ER: far left) member of the European Parliament.

According to reports, tensions arose between members of an activist group called Némésis—which regularly organises protests against what it calls the “Islamist left” in French universities—and anti-fascist groups, which later escalated into violence. Quentin took on an informal security role and tried to protect female activists when the incident occurred.

According to eyewitnesses, the young man and his companion were followed by an Antifa-style group, who then attacked them in a side street. Quentin suffered serious head injuries, lost consciousness, and was taken to hospital in critical condition, where he was diagnosed with a brain hemorrhage. His condition was initially described as “between life and death,” but he later died from his injuries.

The death of the 23-year-old has shocked the public in Lyon and brought the issue of political violence back into the spotlight. The circumstances of the case are being investigated, and the incident is expected to further increase political tensions in France, where ideological conflicts have increasingly spilled out onto the streets.

Knife-wielding Arc de Triomphe attacker dies after being shot by Paris police

A man who on Friday attempted to stab a French officer during a ceremony at the Arc de Triomphe monument in central Paris has died from his injuries after being shot by police. The suspect was released from prison in December after having served a 12-year sentence for terror-related charges.

A man wielding a knife and scissors was fatally shot by police in Paris on Friday when he tried to attack an officer during a ceremony at the city’s Arc de Triomphe monument, officials said.

The suspect, a French national born in 1978 who had previously been convicted in Belgium on terrorist-related charges, died at hospital from his injuries, the French counterterrorism prosecutor’s office said. Authorities did not release the suspect’s name.

The attacker targeted an officer who was guarding the ceremony for relighting the eternal flame honoring unknown soldiers at the Napoleon-era landmark, according to a Paris police official. Another officer shot the attacker, the official said. No bystanders or police officers were injured in the incident, the official said.

Before the suspect had died, the French counterterrorism prosecutor’s office said it had opened an investigation on charges of attempted murder “in connection with a terrorist enterprise.”

The assailant had been sentenced to 17 years in prison by a court in Brussels in 2013 for attempted murders in connection with a terrorist enterprise against three police officers in the Belgian city of Molenbeek the previous year, according to the prosecutor’s office.

First incarcerated in Belgium, he was then transferred to France in 2015 to serve the rest of his sentence. He was released from prison on Dec. 24, 2025, and had since been subject to judicial supervision and surveillance measures, the statement said.

We are now experiencing ever increasing growing pains due to the large number of websites and projects we represent. So we have just installed donation buttons on our websites and ask that you consider this when you visit them. Nothing is too small. We thank you for all your support and your considerations … (TLB)
