Unfortunately, what Wochenblick feared in mid-February now seems to be coming true. Just abolished, the pointless FFP2 mask requirement indoors is now to be reintroduced. This is to be announced this Friday at a press conference by the new Health Minister Johannes Rauch (Greens).
It looks as if those responsible have finally lost every bit of their remaining sanity.
The great deep breath should not last long because the face veils that have just been removed will soon have to be strapped on again indoors. A press conference is to be held this Friday (ER: March 18) at 6 p.m. and the return of the mask requirement indoors will be announced. The “relaxation” came into force on March 5th, so less than two weeks later it should now be reversed again.
Mask requirement à la Ludwig
With the reintroduction of the FFP2 mask requirement indoors, the hated rags must be worn again in the catering trade and in the entire trade, for example. The model here is Vienna. So the same mask rules should apply as currently in Vienna. Both SPÖ (ER: socialist) Mayor Michael Ludwig and his red City Councilor for Health Peter Hacker have repeatedly called for the federal government to follow the Viennese path. Vice Chancellor Werner Kogler (Greens) is said to have urged the Minister of Health to do so, a daily newspaper reports. Rauch has drawn the displeasure of many Green sympathizers. They would have spoken out in favor of stricter measures.
Uncertainty about mask requirements in schools
The Green Health Minister Johannes Rauch, the “experts” and state representatives should be involved in the consultations on the details, reports the government-loyal dirt pink sheet. Rauch wants to have it checked by (ER: sic) when a mask requirement will take effect. Here you could save him a long observation: It doesn’t work! At least it does not have a positive effect on the health of the people who have to wear it. And that for hours, if you think about the unfortunate employees in grocery stores, for example. For the time being, there is no information as to whether the school children will again be subjected to the full range of torture with the masks and whether they will have to wear them when sitting down.
ÖVP federal states for mask requirement
In any case, the pressure for the reintroduction of mask torture comes from several sides: In addition to GECKO *(ER: GECKO is Austria’s Covid Crisis Co-ordination Commission), the traffic light commission is also demanding the FFP2 mask requirement. In addition, there should also be massive pressure from some ÖVP (ER: centre-right) federal states. For example, Lower Austria’s governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner (ÖVP) spoke out in favor of a nationwide regulation. The LH Upper Austria, Thomas Stelzer, is also “open and ready to talk” about the mask requirement : “But that must be regulated uniformly nationwide,” he said.
Possible resignations at GECKO
There is also a GECKO meeting this Friday. There seems to be a risk of members resigning there. The few who are already “loosening” seem to annoy some of the “experts,” because many criticized the end of the mask requirement.
