A French nuclear power plant shut down because it produces too much electricity: “EDF asks us to put the reactors on hiatus”
The Cattenom nuclear power plant, located in Moselle, is in a unique situation to say the least. In fact, it is forced to shut down its number 1 reactor for a period of at least one hundred days. The reason ? Electricity production is greater than national consumption. A situation which perplexes some business leaders, who see their energy bills exploding because of the European Union…

A mild spring and renewable energies in great shape
The drop in electricity consumption in France is partly explained by a particularly mild spring. In April, for example, consumption was 20% lower than the average of the last five years. In addition, wind turbines and photovoltaic panels are currently operating at full capacity, thus contributing to this drop in electricity demand.
A European “paradox”
This unprecedented situation at the Cattenom power plant is not an isolated case. Other French nuclear power plants, such as those of Tricastin and Dampierre-en-Burly, are in the same situation. Yet on the other side of the energy spectrum, companies like Oh ma Bûche are on the verge of bankruptcy due to an explosion in their electricity bills.
Romain Le Goaster, the manager of this Morbihan SME, denounces an unjustified increase in his electricity bill, going from 4,000 to 40,000 euros per month. A situation which is endangering thousands of businesses in France, with around 500 closures per month, according to the latest figures.
Faced with this paradox, we can legitimately wonder if France is not once again the turkey of this new farce of the European Union. On the one hand, nuclear power plants forced to reduce their production for lack of consumers, and on the other, industrial SMEs threatened with closure due to exorbitant electricity bills. A situation which calls for in-depth reflection on European energy policy.

The Liberty Beacon Project is now expanding at a near exponential rate, and for this we are grateful and excited! But we must also be practical. For 7 years we have not asked for any donations, and have built this project with our own funds as we grew. We are now experiencing ever increasing growing pains due to the large number of websites and projects we represent. So we have just installed donation buttons on our websites and ask that you consider this when you visit them. Nothing is too small. We thank you for all your support and your considerations … (TLB)
