European Human Rights Court Backs Romania’s Election Annulment

.

ER Editor: Peak madness, peak tyranny, peak show.

A reminder that anti-globalist Calin Georgescu was the front runner in the first round of Romania’s presidential elections last year. The second round got suddenly cancelled, a decision backed up by Romania’s Constitutional Court. An appeal was then lodged with the ECHR, and that failed just yesterday because a president is not part of the legislative body. The ECHR can only rule on the election of legislative bodies, not on electing presidents. The People can have their electoral freedoms protected when electing governmental bodies but not presidents, apparently. Go figure. Journalist Tamas Orban walks us through the ruling.

This is linked to below, but we recommend this euractiv article for its coverage of what Russia’s external intelligence services (SVR) are claiming about Brussels being behind Georgescu’s recent arrest —

PM Ciolacu and MFA reject Russian secret service interference in Romania’s internal affairs

According to the SVR, the EU leadership was “obviously behind the decision” to press charges against Georgescu. The Russian intelligence agency further alleged that European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen had warned of potential restrictions on EU funds for Romania if Georgescu, whom they described as a representative of “non-systemic forces,” continued his campaign.

Following the attack on Georgescu, the SVR claimed that the European liberal establishment would likely intensify efforts to “stifle dissent in the EU”, suggesting that Hungary could be the next target in the upcoming parliamentary elections, as it remains a “bastion of European conservatism.”

The Liberty Beacon Project is now expanding at a near exponential rate, and for this we are grateful and excited! But we must also be practical. For 7 years we have not asked for any donations, and have built this project with our own funds as we grew. We are now experiencing ever increasing growing pains due to the large number of websites and projects we represent. So we have just installed donation buttons on our websites and ask that you consider this when you visit them. Nothing is too small. We thank you for all your support and your considerations … (TLB)
